Thomas J. Coyle

Thomas J. Coyle was born on August 10, 1921 in Middletown, Ohio. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1942 and was deployed to Europe in July 1944. As a sergeant in the 313th Field Artillery Battalion under General Patton's Third Army, his unit received the Distinguished Unit Citation for its actions during the Battle of Metz. For his own actions during this battle, he was awarded the Bronze Star. Tom, his older brother, Bob and two younger brothers, Jim and Dan all served our country in the US Army during World War II and all returned home safely after the war. In May 2009, Tom, Dan and Jim participated in the Honor Flight program (a non-profit group that provided free transportation of World War II veterans to Washington D.C. to see the newly-constructed World War II Memorial). Tom also participated in the Library of Congress' Veterans History Project.

Tom died on July 11, 2013 just one month shy of his 92nd birthday. In addition to his family still residing in Middletown, OH, he is survived by his daughter, MaryRose Schiering (husband, David) and grandfather of Robert (wife, Kristin), Hannah, Brian (wife, Bora) and Brendan Schiering of Danbury, CT.
