About. . .

Located at the Danbury War Memorial, the Veterans Walkway of Honor was established in 2012 and is a permanent commemorative walkway lined with bricks engraved with the names of honored men and women who have served our great country.

Who is eligible to be honored? Anyone who has served honorably in the armed forces or is currently on active duty or any veteran organization.

Bricks may be engraved1 with the name, rank and service branch of family, friends and loved ones who served honorably in the United States Armed Forces. Bricks may be in honor of those who are still living, missing in action, on active duty or in memory of those who are deceased.  Stock logos2 are also available for engraving.

Profits from the fundraiser go directly to the Raymond A. Walling VFW Post 149  with a portion of the proceeds from each brick sale going to various veteran organizations.  Donations have been made to:

  • Help Our Military Heroes
  • Operation Vet Fit
  • Vet House
  • Wounded Warrior Project
  • Wounded Warriors Family Support
  • Homes For Our Troops
  • Fisher House Foundation Inc.
  • Iwo Jima Memorial Historical Foundation, Inc.

"We are very excited to have this walkway in Danbury. What better way to honor America's Veterans and to preserve the memory of a loved one who served bravely for our country," said Lee Teicholz, who spearheaded the project.

Former Mayor Mark Boughton said, "The Veterans Walkway of Honor is a unique addition to the memorials in Rogers Park. As future generations travel the special path, they will be reminded of those who have served our country, and who have fought for our freedoms; hopefully bringing a sense of American pride to each visitor."

"As a combat veteran, I am honored to co-sponsor the Veterans Walkway of Honor and give our heroes the recognition that they deserve," said Danny Hayes, Director of Veterans Affairs in Danbury.

We are currently offering brick sales3 that will be placed in the walkway prior to Veterans Day4. All orders must be received by Monday, September 30, 2024. Don't miss this opportunity to be part of a permanent display to those who served our country.

We also invite you to email us a photo and a short biography of the honoree. The photos and biographies will be used to create their own web page on this website.

Please contact the VFW Post 149 at (203) 748-9579 or by email at vfwpost149@gmail.com for any additional questions.
