Henry Wojcik

Henry J. Wojcik was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts in 1907 and lived most of his life in Danbury, Connecticut. A self-employed auto mechanic, Henry enlisted in the US Army at age 35 in 1942 during WWII. He was assigned to the 52nd Armored Infantry Battalion, 9th Armored Division (the "Phantom Division"), Headquarters Company, and earned the rank of Private First Class.

 

Henry served overseas in the European Theater, notably the Ardennes and the Rhineland, and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, three Bronze Service Stars, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Distinguished Unit Citation with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster (now known as the Presidential Unit Citation), and the World War II Victory Medal.

 

He received an honorable discharge from the Army in 1945 and returned to Danbury, where he built and lived in the Garrison Colonial home in Rogers Park that now houses the Veterans Hall on Memorial Drive (formerly Rogers Park Road). In his later years, Henry lived with family until his death in 1989 at age 82.
